This grandiose Grüner Veltliner is produced from a single vineyard site, ‘Hermanschachern’, which mirrors the soils of Chablis; rich in ancient fossils and oyster shells. Full-bodied, with great acidity, this wine excellently shows site definition. A veritable Grand Cru of Austrian wine, this is not a white to miss.
93/100 – The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Hermanschachern was grown on limestone with a loess cover and barely gives anything away on the nose. The palate, however, is a picture of fresh chervil, with just a few strands of yarrow crushed with white pepper to provide a cooling, soothing, salty, spicy sensation on the svelte, taut palate. This is quite savory, with elongated purity. (Bone-dry) – Anne Krebiehl MW, Decanter
