Yet another mouth-watering Pinot Noir from arguably New Zealand’s most renowned producer of the variety, Felton Road. Situated next to Lake Dunstan in Central Otago, the Cornish Point vineyard benefits from a unique mesoclimate that yields luxurious dark fruit flavours and distinctly woody, smoky notes of cedar. Farmed entirely organically and produced in a non-intervention manner, this wine has all the typical Cornish Point spice with perfectly integrated, smooth tannins. A standout.
96/100 – Floral and fragrant aromas of strawberries, hibiscus, cinnamon bark and plums. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of raspberries, chalk, dark cherries and spices. Pure and polished with an aromatic lift and some old-vine nuance. Drink or hold. Screw cap. – James Suckling
94/100 – There’s a core of sweet fruit here: it’s ripe and generous, with raspberry and sour cherry, and it’s quite compact and unfurled despite the ripeness. Has a bit of grunt with some spicy detail and a touch of tarriness on the finish. This could evolve nicely. Offers a lot of immediate pleasure now though. – Dr. Jamie Goode, WineAnorak
